13 Reasons why #6

In the middle of the book Clay meets a girl named Skye. He isnt very intersted in her at all she just works at the restuarnt that hannah wants him to go to. But at the end of the book he sees her in the hall school and sees here walking down the same hallway Hannah walked down when she was completely drounded out by the poeple adn when she first started slipping away. I think it is interseting how on the last page of the book you are left with Clay chaseing Skye down the hall. I think this is interseting because he seems to notice the things in this girl that he didnt hannah and now he feels he is able to help her. Another thind i thought was interesting was how much the tapes impacted the people who got them. You could alwys tell when someone had just listended to them becuase as described they had a sad and lost look on their faces adn you just knew. Overall i really liked the book. At first it thought the 13 reasons should have been a little more interstrestinf but by in the end you realize that the reason they give only make the book that much more interresting.

13 Reasons Why #5

Something I noticed while reading this book was that it was written in two different fonts. The fonts switch from clays thoughts on what Hannah is saying to what Hannah is saying. As you read more of the book it seems more and more like the fonts are turing into one. Maybe its just my eyes but i think the other made the fonts so closey alike for a reason. I think that as the book goes on your supposed to feel like Clay and hannah were alot alike which is hwy his thoughts and her words seem to be so closey togherther almost like they are thinkg the same thing and its really onloy one person talking. Another thing I noticed while readint he book was how Clay's cahrcater seemed to change throughout the book. After a while it started to show how the people in his life effected him and how much he actually seemed to care for hannah. In the beining of the book he seems spooked out by the tapes adn he doesnt really want to listent to them anymore but as you read more it seems like all he wants to do is listen to the tapes. He doesnt seem to care about the world around him just about the girls voice who is flowing into his from the tape. He finds his self doing everything she told him to adn he beings to feel what she felt.

13 Reasons Why #4

Twords the end of the book Clay the main charcter is given the reason to why he is on the tapes. In tape number nine is where his story comes up. They told us that he was only in tape simple for Hannah to figure out that Hannah just wanted to apologize for freaking out at him on the night of a party. Like i have said in other blogs i think the author waits so long for the reader to figure out why Clay is on the tapes just to keep us reading the book. I also think that it was a good idea for her to put it more close to the end rather then at the end because then it doesnt just end with us knowng why he was on the tapes but also knowinf what happened the next day at school. I also think that the author made it seem like clay's reason was gonna be something really bad because throughout the book whenever Hannah would bring up clay she would say she was always hearing good things about him and she was just waiting for something bad to slip out but that never happened. I thought that was another way the author kept the reader reading because he wanted you to feel like he had done something really bad but then you find out he really did nothing at all.

13 Reasons Why #3

In the book Hannah puts map in the box of taps and stars all the place she mentions in the book so that whoever is listening to the tapes can go the places she went if they want. In a way i think that this is a good i dea because then the reader of the tapes are able to feel the emotion or try to imagine Hannah there. Clay goes to every spot that Hannah says to go on the tapes he tries to imagine himself doing the same things as Hannah. The Map is a good way to connect to the book. It show how the charcter is just like an every day teenager because the places she goes are places anyother teenager would go.

13 Reasons Why #2

Thirteen Reasons why is book that really sticks to you and makes you want to keep reading. In the book i like how they dont tell you the main guys story until the very midle making it so you have to keep reading to get the reasoning for why the narrator is who he is. I dont like how the book frequently swithches from Hannahs voice to Clays voice. It makes it more difficlut to understand. So far i feel like Hannahs reasons for doing what she did arent as big as they should be. In a way i think that is better than having really bad things happen to her because then more people can relate to her story and kind of try to see things from her point of view. Overall the eents make the story more emotional because the same things could have happened to the reader.

13 Reasons Why #1

The book I am reading is about a girl who kills her self and sends a set of 13 tapes out to 13 peopole telling them the reasons why she killed herself and how they were involved. I really interesting quote from the section I read was "Step-by-step. That's how we'll get through this . One foot in front of the other." I really like this quote because to me it describes both narrators. The boy Clay listening to the tapes and Hannah the speaker of the tapes. Throughout this section i feel like both charcters were and are just trying to get by one step at time while everyone around them seems to be running or moving faster than either of them, but they dont really care they just keep on going one step at a time. The events that lead to the death of Hannah kind of remind me of things i see at school, so far there is no bug reason just a a lot of little one. In the book they call it the "snow ball effect". Little things like a hot or not list or little rumors can start a series of unfortunate events.

OR REFLECTION

Besides the Twilight series I like reading books about more sad things. I am more able to pay attention because it forces me to want to know what happens next. For this quarters blogs I chose to read "Thirteen Reasons Why" by Jay Asher. I chose this book because I have heard really good things about and it sounds like one I would like. I started it and I really like it I think it will be an easy one to blog about.

I read an article on the oprah website about how kanye west over came being faced wiht death. He was driving home one night and fell asleepat the wheel ofhis car. He crashed head on with an suv adn had to have his mouth wired shut. I think that this is really sad adn it was a good idia dor him to try adn get over they incidentby writing music about it. i feel really bad for him but at the samne time it was his fault. That may sound a little heartless but he was one who fell asleep.

Watching New Love as It Sears the Brain

I read an article called Watching New Love as It Sears the Brain . It was about how love can take tole on the brain. The article states that "new love" can look like a mental health issue. I think this is article is funny andmaybe true. From watching movies i have seen that love can make a person do interesting things. But i aslo think that it is just a mental thing no one really has to act that way. "When you're in the throes of this romantic love it's overwhelming, you're out of control, you're irrational, you're going to the gym at 6 a.m. every day - why? Because she's there," ( Dr. helen Fisher) I think that people take on new interest often becuase the one they love has the same ones and then they force them selves to like it beucause they think it will give them a better chance.

At Least 32 Die in a Wave of Violence Across Iraq

I read an article called At Least 32 Die in a Wave of Violence Across Iraq. The article was about suicide bomb in the Kurdistan union. It left about 32 known people dead. I chose to read this article because I thought it was interesting how stuff like this happens almost on a regular basis in iraq. I feel like we should be trying to domore to stop it. I know that by budding in we might get into more trouble but i think it is worth a try considering all the lives that are being put in danger everyday.

A Survival Imperative for Space Colonization

i read an articel about a man named J. Richard Gott III who in 1993 used the copernican principle to predics that humans should live for about another 5100 years. He says that sooner or later something will "get us" an we will have wished we had colonized mars. i dont personally belive that we will survive fo that much longer. I dont htink this because of the way we treat our earth. With isuss like global warming and pollution we are not allowing our planet to let us live for another 5100 years.

Global Issues

I read an article called Global Warming, Spin and Media. It was about different reactions to the issue of global warming from different countries around the world. The article says that more develpoing countries are claiming they are not the reason for the gas pollution from green houses filling the air. I have to say that I agree wiht those people. I think that if Americans stopped using all the chemicals and stuff that we used the world would be much helthier. i think it is good that these countries are not letting americans make them take the blame for somethung they themselves are doing. If we truly wanted to stop this global warming i think that we wouldnt making the issue seem less improtant than it is and start making one of the top priorities and find ways for our earth to stay safe.

i read an article about what christmas is all aboout and how to explain it to someone who has nver heard it befor. In the article gives many examples of things related to christmas like Santa at the North Pole , shepherds in the fields by night ,a winter festival . These are all things i like hearing about. Overall Christmas is a very joyous day and so are the days that surround it. you get presents and get to spend time wiht family you may not see all the time. I think that christmas is one of the most improtant holidays becuase you get presents and food and time aways from things that may be stressful. Christmas is a fun time and everyone should enjoy it or something like it.

I read and article about Bollywood by Suketu Mehta. The articel talks about what the author thinks of Bollywood films. I can sense that he like them because he said that him and his friends would walk around siniging Hindu songs from bollywood films. The article also tells a little about what is in a Bollywood film; they are based on ramance ,there are between 5 and 14 songs, and from my prior knowledge they are not allowed to kiss in the films. The movies are ways to show respect to their mothers. Hollywood and Bollywood are very different. Hollywood movies tend to focuzon just about anything there isnt one set in stone way to write a movie and there deosnt have to be sertain things in the movie. In the Bollywood films they are based more on family and have many rules and requirements. I would say that hollywood is a littel more free to what they want with movies.

The articel Indian flood victims face food shortages is about how a flood washed over a villiage in india. the village was called Bihar india and the flood whipped out the food source for its people. the people whom were left went to camps for shelter but they didnt have any or enough food. In many ways this article is similar to nectar because of some of the events the people went through. The mothers in the articel to just liek rukmani watch there children suffer from hunger. THey would try soothing them but they knew there was no wat they could get food for them. They had to deal with the cries of the children in the camps and just wait until something worked out. The belly's of the people were becoming extended. I think that the americans should bring food to all the places that are suffering from food scarcity so that other people can have a chance to lead healthy strong lives.

Breaking Dawn- change

In breaking dawn Bella and Edward get married and go on a honeymoon, during the time they are on the honeymoon Bella becomes pregnant. Both her and Edward thought it was impossible but it happened and so they only way to save Bella's life was to change her forever. Bella was changed into a vampire immediatly after giving birth to her baby girl. This changes her life beacause there are so many things that she can no longer do. And the biggest change is that she is no longer human. From reading Breaking Dawn I learned that the things you do can change you life for ever so unless you are readt dont do something that you know will cause you to loose another thing you can never get back. I also learned that changes in life arent always bad but sometimes they are for the people around you, always think befor you act because you never if you'll get the chance to go back.

" Some Find Hope For a Shift In Drug Policy"

"Some Find Hope For A Shift In Drug Policy" is an article about how drugs should not be tolerated as much as they are in Seattle. The article states that many times people will smoke marijuana in front or police officers and nothing is done about it. Some poeple say its just cause the police officers are being respectful, but is it really respect when others are being harmed from it. I think that if the problem becomes bigger and is continuosly getting pushed aside then marijuana will be banned all together. Meaning poeple who use it for medical purposes will no longer have that option. I also think that if we take care of the issue now we can eventually put and end to drug use beacause the less people who see the drug the less people know about it.

I decided to use the article that Ms.Jarrett posted called How India Reconciles Hindu Values and Biotech. This article talks about the way India has made such progress in stem cell research and about we amreicans need to catch up. It also mentions the reason behind why we are not as caught up as india in this area. I think that by trying to increase our knowledge in this area we will be able to save more lifes. I also think that by doing this we could come up wiht more cures because we would have the stem cells to practice on.

In the book Nector in a Sieve which i am reading in english 10. There is a pretty big difference in the role of each gender. The men are the providers; they do the farming in order to provide money and food for their families, they have a lot of pressure on them to stay strong for the family. I have learned that becacause one the of main characters in the book Nathan is starting to feel that he is helpless for his family and that he is not doing a good job at being the provider. The women have a lot more that is expected of them. They must be married off at a young age wiht the man there parents choose for them , they must clean, and have children and those children should be sons, they also must do most of the raising of their children, and they get less food then the rest of the family. Men and women in India have very different roles from each other but it seems that they do treat eachohter with some sense of respect.

In English 10 we are reading a book called Nector in a Sieve. It takes places in a village in India. Their way of life there is so much different the life that i live today. Int he book they do many things to keep their culture alive. For instance they have erranged marriges, the main jobs for men are farming, it is better to have sons rather than daughters, the women do most of the cooking and cleaning and raising of the children; daughters are sent away with a gift of a dowry and expected to have children. In my life i have to do some chores, go to school and do good things. There are some similarities though, in both cultures we have a firework type celebration once a year, we both do some type of chore maybe not to the same extent, and everyone has and needs a job. I am not ordered to have children when married and i have a say in the person whom i marry. My family doesnt work on a farm and try and base our life style of the change in the weather. Alothough very different both culuters are the same in the most important ways like the shareing of love, food, shelter, and care.

I have been reading the book Eclipse ( 3rd of the twighlight series) and Bella the main charcter has been trying to overcome a struggle. Her best friend is a werewolf and her boyfreind is a vampire. They both hate eachother but Bella loves both of them but in two differrent ways which is the probelm. Jake her bestfriend is in love wiht bella but she only sees him as a friend. He has been trying to win her over because deep inside he believes that Bella really loves him. This situation reminds me of a movie i watched called The Minute Men on disney channel about were two ex-best friends are after the same girl but one of the boys is dating her and the other is just his best friend. A diffrence between them and Edward (vampire) and Jacob (werewolf) is that they are not fairy tale like creatures they are human. A similarty between them is that in both stories there are two guys in love wiht one girl and both guys are not friends.

Sichuan Earthquake

Jacobs Andrew."Superstitions About Quake Meet the Web, Irritating the Chinese Authorities" New York Times. 16 May . 1 Febuary 2009. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/16/world/asia/16rumors.html?fta=y

First off an Earthquake is when the earths surface is shaking due to a violent movement of the rocky outer layer of the earth. This happens if the energy inside the earth is released , then earthquake waves transfer the energy to the center of the earth causing an earthquake. To break it down further faults are made in the earth which are places in the crust of the earth where the rocks have been moved which also causes the tectonic plates to move. The tectonic plate moving is very slow and it can take over a hundred years for the pressure to build up and finally be stronger than the rocks causing all that stored energy to be released. And BAM you have an earthquake. Things that humans can do to speed up this process are injecting fluids into deep wells for waste disposal, and firing underground nuclear test blasts. I read an article about a deadly earthquake in Sichaun Province that left animals flying and ponds draining and not to mention at least 3,000 people dead and some 4,500 missing.

Charlie told Bella to stay out of the woods until the bear problems went away. There had been several attacks the only strange thing was that there was never a body left behind only a little blood. Bella promised she wouldnt go in the woods. But one weekend when charlie was away she decided to go in to the woods to find the meadow that edward had showed her so many months ago. She thought that it would bring back old memories. but it didnt and out from a distance she saw a man walking up adn then she realized it was laurent. He had come to kill her. Just as he was about to eat her a pack of wolves showed up. there were five and they ran rihgt past her and went for Laurent. After a few days thinking adn hints from Jacob she realized that JAke was one of those wolves. And that is why he had been acting so stange all those weeks ago.

Saturday, January 10, 2009

Bella decided to take a group of freinds to the movies but in the end only Mike Newton and Jacob could join her. They all went to see a scary bloody movie and mike ended getting sick. He was puking the whole car ride home. Bella and Jake thought he was sick from the movie but it turns out he had the flew wich had been going around for a while. Jake started getting sick after that night to they assumed he had the same thing. Only he wasnt throwing up and he was seemed to be getting a really high fever. Jacob was never able to talk to Bella after that night and she started getting worried about him even though billy said he was just sick. She didnt believe it. Befor that night many other starnge things had been happeing their had been these bear sightings and soon enough bella came across one her self. Only when she saw it she notice tthat it was much bigger then a bear. It was a wolf and it was huge!

Wednesday, January 7, 2009

Bella realized that whenever she does something stupid that could put her self in danger Edwards voice would appear. So she tried everything she could inorder to hear his voice. She found some guy to sell her two motorcyles and she took them to Jacob so he oculd fix them. From then on her and jake became best friends. Everyday he would work on fixing the bikes adn everyday she would watch. It started getting easy for her to pretend to be happy and everytime she was with Jacob the whole in her heart that Edward left got smalle and smaller. When the bikes were fixed she gave the nicest one to Jacob and they went somewhere so he could teach her how to ride them. The first time she was doing fine but Edwards voice startled her and the bike fell on top of her. She fell again after that but this time she cut her head and they had to stop for the day.

Sunday, January 4, 2009

Bella decided that since she didnt want Charlie being so catious of her that she would ask someone to go to a movie wiht her. Not for her own good but for charlies she didnt like him seeinf her like that. Bella asked Jennifer at school and she unwillingly agreed. Bella couldnt see a romance movie she knew she wouldnt be able to handle it so they decided to go see a horror movie about zombies. But the begingin was to hard for bella to watch so she kept leaving. Befor they went to a movie she saw a group of men that looked like the ones that had tried to harrass her a while ago and she started to approach them. She suddenly stopped when out of nowhere she heard the voice of Edward Cullen in her head.

Saturday, January 3, 2009

For a while charlie would run up to Bella's room because of her screaming but soon he realized it was all repetative and he knew it was just nightmares. Bella was still the same she was always sad. But now she tried harder to make her self seem happy so her father wouldnt try to send her away. She tried to start talking to her friends again but they didnt really wanna be bothered wiht. School was hard for her becuase she would never see the cullens across the lunch room at lunch anymore. Even at work she wouldnt talk and after a while mike newton also stopped trying. All of her friends figured this is how it would be with her.
